Nature hearts and wood disc spinners

Oaks had a creative morning, using a selection of natural and found resources to make a nature heart. We will be using these to make something special for some special people…all will be revealed!
They also had fun balancing wood slices-trying to build towers with them, rolling conkers down the guttering, sharing on the swings and finding their own favourite things to do and explore.
Larches and Cedars worked hard to make their own wood disc spinners, using the wood slices they cut themselves last week. They were introduced to some different drills-the bit and brace drill, the hand drill and the palm drill- and chose which one they wanted  to use, to make two holes in the centre of their wood discs.
They then decorated both sides of the disc  and threaded string through the centre holes. Once they were complete, we practised spinning them round and round until the string was really twisted, before pulling the strings in opposite directions so that the disc spun fast, and made lovely patterns.
We did lots of working together today, helping to collect different thicknesses of sticks, in preparation for a fire next week. We also made some bird feeders and some nature cards and enjoyed playing together with our friends
