This week, we’ve been thinking and learning about the birds that we might see in our gardens and in Forest School…
Willows and Maples classes both went on a Picture treasure hunt. They took turns to find the hidden pictures and then matched them up to another picture of the same type of bird.

Willows and Maples classes talked about a bird’s beak, tail, wings, claws and eyes and located each of these on a picture of a bird, we used the binoculars to try to find birds up at the tops of the trees, we looked at bird ID books, we played a matching game, we made different sorts of bird-feeders and we tried to find some of the insects that birds might like to eat!
Firs class enjoyed some sensory play with birdseed and eggshells. They had fun crushing the shells and pouring the seed. They painted bird pictures using crushed blackberries and enjoyed listening to the birdsong and playing with the toy birds.
…and also enjoyed just ‘being’…experiencing…taking in all the outdoors has to offer in our woodlands
