Blackberry bonanza!

It’s all been about the blackberries this week! We are lucky enough to have lots of blackberries growing on our School site and we love to use then in creative ways out in Forest School. Each of the 3 classes who have been out to the woods have explored blackberries in different ways…
Rowans class had a go at making blackberry paint and using it to colour in these pictures
Rowans enjoyed lots of other Forest activities. We were stunned when our cheeky robin (who follows us around and watches us) hopped over to investigate the mini-beasts we had found. Before we knew it, he had picked out the millipede and eaten it! We watched as he came back to take the centipede too!
Our youngest children had a marvellous time squashing blackberries and mixing them with water. They used freshly cut beautiful smelling herbs (lemon thyme and mint) too, to mix in and make potions…

As this was Firs first week (and the first time out in the woods for most of the class) we did lots of exploring and playing in the different areas around the site.
Cedars class worked together to help to make blackberry dye, which we used to colour some bunting for our forest fairy village. The children mixed and squashed blackberries, added a little water and then painted letters on fabric squares. They did this so carefully! And we were really pleased with the end result.
